Methods of dissemination and physical characteristics
Nerve agent ways of dissemination:
Indoor Air: Nerve agents can be released into indoor air as a liquid spray (aerosol) or as a vapor.
Water: Nerve agents can contaminate water, although they will decompose slowly.
Food: Nerve agents can contaminate food.
Outdoor Air: Nerve agents can be released into outdoor air as a liquid spray (aerosol) or as a vapor.
Agricultural: When nerve agents are released into the air as a liquid spray (aerosol), it has the potential to contaminate agricultural products. If they are released as a vapor, it is highly unlikely to contaminate agricultural products.
Nerve Agents physical characteristics:
SARIN: Clear, colorless liquid.
SOMAN: Clear, colorless, liquid. Discolors with aging to dark brown. Gives off colorless vapor.
TABUN: Clear, amber-colored, oily liquid.
VX: Clear, amber-colored, oily liquid.
